Tournament Prep Update

With the course being open for practice rounds tomorrow, today is a big day for getting all loose ends tied up. While we are not expecting too many practice rounds tomorrow we still have to be prepared if somebody does show up on the course. All volunteers, from fellow superintendents to sales reps, will be lending a hand for the week. Without the help of our volunteers it would be impossible to provide the conditions we do, so to all that are helping us out during the tournament, thank you very much.
The weather of late has provided some great growing conditions for greens and aided some of the thin areas on greens to fill in nicely. The last two days we have put a light dusting of our green topdressing mix on the greens which in turn has smoothed the surface out dramatically. The last two days of advance week we backtrack mowed the greens and added an afternoon roll which has our target green speed for the tournament easily achievable.
From today onwards fairways will be cut everyday in the afternoon. We are currently mowing half/half and will rotate the direction each day. Anybody who visits the course or watches on television will not see a bad lie if the players can keep it on the fairways. The newly sodded fairway extensions are almost 100% filled in and should not pose a problem for the players.
The rough is currently at tournament height and will not be cut until the tournament is over. To get a bigger emphasis on hitting fairways we have worked and mown the rough around fairways so if the players hit the rough the ball will settle into the 419 and pose a difficult recovery.
To our followers and visitors who check our blog, please continue to check in. We will be doing 2 posts a day to keep everybody up to speed what's going on around East Lake at The Tour Championship.
